Synopsis

It’s a long journey from Edinburgh all the way to the wild edges of Western Norway, yet that is the journey Mary McTier has had to make in order to track down her brother, Joseph. His last known whereabouts was a small village where he was carrying out some extensive academic research, Fjellskygge.

Upon arrival, however, Mary finds that Fjellskygge is not a welcoming place for outsiders, and even less so for prying eyes. With the help of only a handful of people, Mary sets about trying to retrace her brother’s steps…only some stones, she finds, are best left unturned, especially those concerning the people you love.
Everyone has a secret.
Everywhere has a history.
Everything is never as it appears.

Jötunn is a dark thriller, steeped in folklore and mystery. It is American Gods meets The Wicker Man. Delving not only into the myths and legends of Norse culture, but also into the inquisitive, but nevertheless arrogant, attitudes of the modern world. All told as an immersive audio drama.

Production Plan

Smoke & Shadow are excited to be able to make Jötunn their debut production. The aim is to work on a proof of concept pilot episode to release to our amazing funders and work to garner further support and outreach for the series. Jötunn is a 10 30-minute episode Audio Drama series, totalling an approximate total time of 5 hours.
5 hours of amazing content, drama and supreme talent. That’s the aim of Smoke & Shadow.

We want to make sure this series gets the reception it deserves, not only as a unique show, but also to be able to showcase some amazing talents in the form of actors, musicians, crew and beyond. Once the initial pilot is made, the aim will be to use that increased output, audience and funding to create a second proof of concept of the first 3-episodes of the series with a much higher budget and production value. From there, we hope to be able to pitch this production to global platforms (such as Audible) and make Smoke & Shadows inaugural show, the incredible piece of dark folklore-thriller, we know that it is.
